On the 22nd of August at 5:37am , Jason Baynes, Industrial Sales Director at Bulldog Abrasives and his daughter , Sophia Summated the highest mountain in North Africa, Toubkal in Morocco. Mt Toubkal, is a mountain peak in southwestern Morocco, located in the Toubkal National Park. At 4,167 metres, it is the tallest peak in the Atlas Mountains and North Africa, the highest for over 2000 km, located south of the city of Marrakesh, and remotely set amongst ancient Berber villages. The climb went as planned from start to finish, says Baynes, we climbed quickly thanks to our fitness levels and limited issues with altitude sickness. “Working as a small team of three climbers helped us avoid added complications and allowed us to complete the normal five hour summit in around three and half hours before descending from the pyramid, a further 22 kms to Imlil”. In total the summit day, starting at 2am, took 14 hours. The two days of climbing in and around the various valleys and peaks that make up the Atlas range, where incredible and well worth the effort, said Baynes, who flew the Bulldog Abrasives flag on the summit before returning to South Africa on the 26th of August.
